The Barbara storm puts 11 communities orange alert for strong winds and rains - The good time is over. This week an "important Atlantic storm" will vitalize our country, leaving in its wake unstable weather with heavy rains and winds, especially in the West peninsular although at the end of the week are not ruled out also in some areas of the Mediterranean, as reported Eltiempo.es.

The Bárbara storm will be one of the great protagonists of this storm of rain and wind. Its arrival on the peninsula this Tuesday in the southwest of the country has activated the orange alert (important risk) in 11 communities by winds that may exceed 100 kilometers per hour and precipitation that could leave up to 80 liters per square meter, according to the meteorological agency (AEMET).

The strongest gusts will occur in high mountain areas, where it is not ruled out "exceeding 120 kilometers per hour", as warned the spokesman of the AEMET, Rubén del Campo.

Although the first rainfall of this storm was already on Monday in Galicia, extreme west of Castilla y León and the mountainous areas of Asturias and Extremadura, the worst of the storm is expected from today Tuesday. Barbara will cause adverse weather, heavy rains and strong winds.

As reported from Eltiempo.es, the storm will sweep the map from Southwest to northeast leaving heavy rainfall in its path: they will cover the entire west of the country and the central strip. Also in the Canary Islands it will be a day of heavy rains, especially in the west of the archipelago.

Precipitation will be widespread throughout Spain, but the most persistent rains will occur in the western half of the peninsula.

Especially noteworthy are the quantities in Mountain systems, especially in the environment of the Central system where they can exceed 200 liters per square meter. Rainfall in the western half of Castilla y León and Extremadura will also be very significant.

The wind will be another great protagonist of the day this Tuesday. The gusts may exceed 80 kilometers per hour in Western Andalusia, Extremadura, North and east of Castilla-La Mancha, surrounding the sierra de Madrid and in the West and in the south end of Castilla y León, but also the Cantabrian caordillera and in the north of the Iberian system.

Even stronger winds could occur in Iberian Rioja, in the center and north of Navarra, in the interior of Cantabrian communities and in the surroundings of the Pyrenees where they could reach 90 or 100 kilometers per hour, according to Del Campo.

The forecast will not improve much for Wednesday, as the day is expected to start with heavy rains in most of the peninsula and The Canary Islands.

They will be "locally strong, persistent and stormy" in western Galicia, around the central system, extreme southeast of Castilla y León and Northern Extremadura. Also in the Cantabrian mountain range and south face of the Aragonese and Navarre Pyrenees.

In the rest of the territory it is estimated that precipitation will disperse and decrease as the day progresses.

However, the wind will continue to be an adverse phenomenon, with very strong gusts of southern component, especially during the first half of the day, in western Galicia, the mountain areas of the center and the northern half and in the Cantabrian area, with gusts of more than 90 or 100 kilometers per hour.

For the weekend, it is expected that the weather tends to stabilize, especially on Saturday, but Sunday will arrive a "new and active" front that can leave rain in much of the peninsula.
