Bupa President Roger Davis has pointed out that Ereño was the natural choice to fill Bourke's position, who retires after 8 years in the group.

"He has long been with the Bupa team, with an exemplary track record of leadership, innovation and growth across multiple business lines and geographies. The board and I are excited about what he will bring to the next chapter in the development of Bupa," Davis said of Ereño.

According to the group's annual report for the year 2019, the company earned more than 13.4 billion euros in revenue and offer health insurance more than 17.5 million people worldwide.

Changes to the Bupa Group structure, subject to regulatory approval, will take effect on January 1, 2021. They will include the appointment of a new CEO for Sanitas and the Europe and Latin America division, to be announced in the coming days.
