So is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 unique exclusive mobile that brings together the best of the entire catalog of the company
Samsung has just presented at IFA 2020 the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, a smartphone that comes to renew its iconic folding mobile presented last year. On this occasion, the company has collected the suggestions of users and has improved its proposal, offering the public a different and exclusive device that continues to have the essence of the multinational.
And it is that this terminal brings together the best of all the phones in its catalog: the tablet format of the Fold, the resistant hinge of the Z Flip and the power of the S20 and Note 20. In short: the best of the best.
In this way, Samsung gains muscle in the R & D section and puts on sale a device that reinforces the innovative character of the multinational. But what are the news, differences and strengths of this team? Read on to get to know in depth the 6 key features of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the folding of the company that overcomes the barrier of 2,000 euros.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 retains the essence of the original version in terms of its book format, but has improved in several ways. Thus, it maintains the matte finish with a mist effect and has two end-to-end Infinity-O screens renewed:
- A first 6.2-inch SUPER AMOLED panel with HD + resolution (2,260 x 816 pixels). This first is on the front of the device, and has increased considerably compared to the previous generation (before it was 4.6 inches) so that it can be handled better and the contents can be seen in all its glory.
- A second dynamic AMOLED 2x Infinity Flex 7.6-inch panel (2,208 x 768 pixels), which will give you the feeling of being in front of a tablet. This has also increased by 0.3 inches compared to the previous generation thanks to reduced bevels and made the most of their dimensions.

This second has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz with an adaptable configuration depending on what is prioritized: autonomy or fluidity, something that has already been seen in the Samsung Galaxy Note 20. So, same device will allow you to choose whether you want to configure it with standard resolution or Adaptable. The first makes all the apps run at 60Hz to increase the autonomy of the terminal, while the second allows to reach 120Hz to adapt the refreshment if the app allows —if not, manages it at 60Hz -.
Another of the great virtues of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 are its cameras. The device comes with a total of 5 sensors designed to bring a lot of versatility to the user (three in the back, a selfie and a front). Inside the main chamber, there are:
- A 12.2 megapixel wide-angle sensor that collects up to 123º f / 2.2: for landscapes.
- A 12 megapixel f / 1.8 sensor: to capture a lot of light.
- A 12 megapixel f / 2.4 telephoto with 5x optical zoom and 10x digital.
In addition, it has a camera on the front of the device 10 megapixels f / 2.2, as well as a fifth camera, this time selfie, with the same configuration.
Even though the hardware it incorporates is powerful, what's really interesting are the modes and the user experience. In this sense, the Night Mode (or night vision, as the company calls it) has been improved, which improves the light it brings to the image in dark environments.
you are capturing through the smaller screen, so that it adjusts the position, frame, or expression you want to reflect.
There is also an option by which, when folding the screen, you can see the software controls at the bottom or choose the capture that interests you most (no need to go to the gallery).
However, if there is something that I found really useful is the possibility of taking pictures on a table through gestures. Thus, the Mobile will frame and adjust (via AI) the people in the image. This way, even if you move or you are not 100% well placed in front of the device, the software will do everything possible to make the shot perfect.
If there is one thing that already impressed me in its predecessor was the speed of transition between one screen and another. Well, the multinational has assured that, now, they have improved the speed of it and have added new features.
Among them is the optimization of multitasking, which now allows you to display 2 or 3 applications at the same time with the extended screen, new options to manage or drag files, as well as the possibility of making triple or double screenshots of each of the open tabs (even if you have the panel deployed), so you can bring those screenshots to those apps or documents.
They have also inserted several icons and settings on the smaller screen that were not before (the clearest example is that of Google Maps).
They have incorporated a 'Flex mode' that allows you to use the mobile folded on a table with apps adaptable to this configuration. In this way, they use the top of the panel to display a video or image while the bottom is used to display recommended videos and other controls. In this regard, Samsung has appealed to the developer community to adapt its interface to all the possibilities of Fold 2.
A curious detail: in 2019 they included the Galaxy Buds in the 'gift' box, while this year they have decided to add a standard Type-C headset, that is, the ones that come with the other Samsung devices signed by AKG.
As for the rest of the connectivity, it has everything you can ask for from a mobile in 2020: 5G, NFC, USB Type C, WiFi 6 (802.11 ax) and Bluetooth 5.0.
Its sound is handled by two dynamic stereo speakers, so you won't have any problems with the audio.
Its dual battery of 4,500 mAh promises a day of autonomy, so you will have no problem when charging it. It also supports fast charging.
One of the big problems of the original Fold was the hinge, as dust entered from the inside as it was not completely flat. However, this time, the multinational has decided to incorporate the technique they incorporated in the Z Flip, which uses physical hinges to bend the screen and keep it fixed at a specific angle.
In addition to this, the Fold 2 uses an extra hinge on each side, so the fold area is larger than on the latest Samsung folding phone. In fact, it can be deployed up to 180 degrees, making it suitable for different uses, but it can sustain itself between 75 and 115 degrees.
To top it off, they have implemented a strip of fiber similar to that of a vacuum cleaner, which cleans the dust and prevents it from entering the inside of the device.
The company claims that this system secures up to 200,000 folds, so everything points out that it will be more resistant and efficient than the mechanism used last year.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 features an eight-core processor (the company has not specified what it is, but it is expected that the Snapdragon 855+), which accompany 12 GB of RAM and 256 internal memory, so you won't have problems when they ask you to run demanding games or that you can have open several apps at once —something that is truly important in this device—.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 makes the most of its possibilities. In this way, it is raised as one of the big bets of the coming months.
The company has put up for sale this device for a price 2,000 euros, so it will not be a device for every pocket. Is it worth it? On paper it looks good, but we will have to wait for your analysis to see if it is gold all that glitters. However, although you can already access the pre-booking, you will not get home until September 18.
