Volkswagen executive exceeds Tesla electric car sales 2023 - Elon Musk and the president of Volkswagen may have a friendly relationship, but another executive of the German car giant wants to make it clear that Tesla is still a big competitor and that it will not take long to overcome them.
Bernd Osterloh, head of the company's works council, says the company will sell more electric vehicles than Tesla by 2023 thanks to its modular electric traction platform (or MEB), which can be used for any car.
"If Tesla establishes three factories where 300,000 to 500,000 cars can be produced, then we are talking about a number of units between 900,000 and 1.5 million," Osterloh told German magazine Welt am Sonntag, according to the Automotive News translation. "We want to achieve the same in 2023, probably even earlier."

At the moment, Tesla has the advantage of collecting data from all its cars, as Osterloh himself admitted, "but if we put our system in our cars, we will have a lot more data in a short time."
The comments come shortly after Musk visited Tesla's under construction factory near Berlin before meeting with Diess near Volkswagen's headquarters. The video shared by the German firm shows Musk testing a hatchback ID.3 electric with Diess in the passenger seat, one of the flagship models of the brand to precisely overtake the American.
By 2025, VW expects to have 50 fully electric models, and committed in 2018 to spend around $ 50 billion to make it a reality.

Spanish researchers find a key protein for breast cancer metastasis and open the door to new therapies
Integrin B3 is responsible for metastasis in breast cancer and could become a therapeutic target, according to a new study published in Nature and conducted by Spanish scientists.
90% of deaths from breast cancer are due to metastasis, but the process by which tumors were formed in other organs had not been sufficiently studied.
The study, led by a team of researchers from the Translational Molecular Pathology Group of the Vall d'hebron Research Institute (VHIR), in collaboration with the cyber cancer (CIBERONC), has revealed that the B3 protein is key to the formation of secondary tumors.
“We have seen that, when inhibit the integrin B3, the vesicles cannot be internalised and, therefore, there is not the stimulus that favors the growth of tumor in the new organ to metastasize,” says Santiago Ramón y Cajal, group head of Molecular Pathology Translational PALAEONTOLOGY, chief of the Pathological Anatomy Service of the Hospital Universitario Vall d'hebron and group head of the CIBERONC, in a statement issued by the institution.
Therefore, these findings could open a new door to breast cancer therapies, as they make B3 a therapeutic target for preventing metastasis.
Following this publication, the group is working on the search for integrin B3 inhibitors, which would be a possible strategy to prevent cells from forming new colonies in other organs, i.e. to avoid metastases. Therefore, Dr. Ramon and Cajal points out that " these inhibitors would be specific for the control of metastases. Therefore, they should be administered in conjunction with other treatments aimed at the primary tumor.”
Breast cancer is expected to be the third most diagnosed type of cancer by 2020 and is the leading cause of cancer mortality in women.
Artificial intelligence gives you 3 keys to find flights at half price: do not close to a destination, do not plan and choose a continental flight
Turbulence in airspace.
The pandemic has left the skies clear: few travelers at airports, fewer journeys on company schedules and many of their employees on land.
Airlines say they will not recover from the coronavirus crisis until 2024, and the fact is that the data this summer is not good. Spain, during the month of July, had less than a quarter of passengers than last season. And, in Europe, air traffic was 78% lower.
In this context of uncertainty, those who want to travel around the world wonder if it is the right time to do so, between doubts of destinations and restrictions to move.
Therefore, anything can be helpful when planning your next trip. And artificial intelligence aims to come to the rescue or at least throw a cable. The online travel agency eDreams proposes that you use technology to travel intelligently and at the lowest possible price.
The company has released a tool that predicts market prices: "it adds more than 14 billion data from 660 airlines and provides trends on fare fluctuations to help customers make informed decisions about when to book and where to travel," the company explains.
All this data is collected on a website and is reflected in various charts and a map of the world, so that passengers can choose where to go thanks to this updated information. Also, indirectly, " it benefits the sector as a whole, as it influences the mobilisation of demand and motivates consumers to make new reserves," he says.
"It also greatly benefits the momentum of Tourism. The uncertainty caused by COVID-19 has motivated the need to facilitate the task of inspiration and booking trips as much as possible, " adds the online agency.
So, artificial intelligence gives you 3 recommendations before you book your next flight.
The strategy is as follows: go to the map of countries and the colors of the traffic lights, from Green to Red, will tell you which destinations it is cheaper to travel to. Almost the entire planet is covered with Hope color, given the situation of airlines.
According to him, flights to Spain are 29% cheaper than the previous year. And if you go through each country, you can see the price reductions in each.
If you had a specific landing site in mind, it might be better to think twice. For example, in France, tariff developments make the neighbour 51% cheaper. It is one of the most economical, along with Lithuania (-71%) and Poland (-68%), as indicated by the tool. These data may vary depending on the circumstances.
"Thanks to this new functionality, travelers can identify the most affordable time of year to book their flights, both for domestic travel, as well as for Continental and even intercontinental movements," eDreams explains.
"So far, the main trend is that Continental fares are where a higher rate of savings has been perceived, especially on departures before 30 days, where discounts of up to almost 50% have been seen," they indicate.
That is, if you book less than a month in advance, you will benefit more than if your trip is planned between the next 30 and 90 days or already from 90. Conclusion: do not plan.
And the third: search for continental flights, then domestic and, finally, intercontinental
That's the order. Flights within your own continent are the ones that have the greatest savings. These have come down to half price, compared to 2019. Yes: if you book with less than 30 days. Therefore, the winning formula is: the lowest time period + stay on the continental borders.
Then, the cheapest thing would be to book a domestic flight, with differences of up to 44% on the best occasions. Although if what you aspire to is to cross the pond, the reductions are not so noticeable. Price changes in continental rates are around 2% and 13%.
"The functionality is designed to inspire consumers to plan their trips in the post COVID-19 era," says eDreams. In this sense, the most expensive destinations in the new normal are China (157% more), Mongolia (96%) or Australia (79%).
"It is true that the travel industry has been strongly impacted by COVID-19, but we are convinced that we will soon overcome the difficulties we have been facing during these months. With the progressive lifting of movement restrictions, we have realized the desire of consumers to return to travel, " concludes the travel agency.
