Allen Ludden grew up in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, where he attended high school. He went on to study journalism at the University of Texas, where he earned a bachelor's degree.
Professional Career
Allen Ludden began his career in radio in the 1940s, working as a disc jockey and announcer.
He made his television debut in 1949 as the host of a local game show in Dallas, Texas.
In the 1950s, he hosted several game shows, including "G.E. College Bowl" and "The Name's the Same".
In 1961, Allen Ludden began hosting "Password," a game show that would become his most famous and enduring work. He hosted the show until 1975, and then again from 1979 until his death in 1981.
He also hosted other game shows, including "Win With the Stars" and "Stumpers!".
In addition to his work in television, Allen Ludden wrote several books, including "Plain Talk" advice books for young readers and a youth novel called "Roger Thomas, Actor".

Allen Ludden married Margaret McGloin on October 11, 1943. They had three children together: a son named David and two daughters named Martha and Sarah.
Margaret died of cancer on October 30, 1961.
In 1978, Allen Ludden married actress Betty White, whom he had met when she appeared as a celebrity guest on "Password."
They remained married until his death in 1981.
