The incident occurred on a No. 60 double-decker bus in Croydon on September 27, 2023, during the morning rush hour.
The suspect, identified as a 17-year-old boy who was known to the victim, allegedly tried to give his former girlfriend, Andam’s friend, a bouquet of flowers on the bus.
As Andam, her friend, and the ex-boyfriend stepped off the bus at Wellesley Road, Andam was said to have stepped in between her friend and the boy to diffuse the situation.
That is when the enraged ex allegedly pulled out a black, thin knife and plunged its long blade into Andam’s neck.
Suspect
The suspect was arrested just over an hour after the attack, and a 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Elianne Andam.
The family of Elianne Andam has said "our hearts are broken" after she was stabbed to death near a bus stop on her way to school.
Her parents, Michael and Dorcas Andam, appeared at the scene of the stabbing accompanied by about 20 family members and friends.
They stood behind a police cordon and next to a bus stop, where a stationary number 60 bus has been parked since the incident.
The family were touching each other’s shoulders in support, hugging and consoling each other.

She was only 15, and had her whole life ahead of her, with hopes and dreams for the future.
