Charlie Sheen was born Carlos Irwin Estevez in New York City to actor Martin Sheen and artist Janet Templeton. He grew up in Malibu, California, and was encouraged to pursue acting from a young age.
Sheen made his acting debut at the age of 9 in the TV film The Execution of Private Slovik, which starred his father.
He attended Santa Monica High School but was expelled for poor grades.
