George Enescu married the British actress Mariana Ionescu in 1918, a union that brought him closer to the cultural circles of Romania and Western Europe. The couple had no children, but their relationship remained central to Enescu’s personal life, especially during his later years in France. After his death in 1955 in Paris, his widow worked to preserve his legacy, including the repatriation of his remains to Romania where he was buried with national honors.
