J K Rowling was born on July 31, 1965, in England, in the city of Yate, and grew up in the close by town of Bristol. She attended the local Exeter University, where she studied and graduated French and Classics.
After graduation, for her first job, she worked as a researcher and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International.
Career
J K Rowling first had the idea for her famous Harry Potter on a train traveling from Manchester to London King’s Cross in the year 1990 and over the next five years, she began to plan out the seven books of the series.
She wrote mostly in the longhand style and amassed a mountain of notes, many of which were on random scraps of paper.
In August 1996, J.K. Rowling received a call from her agent Christopher, informing her that Bloomsbury (a small publishing company in England) was offering to publish her book.
She accepted the deal, but was encouraged to continue working as a teacher because writing is not a career that pays well.
The first Harry Potter book was published in 1997 and became an instant success.
Rowling went on to write six more books in the series, all of which were bestsellers.
She has also written other books, including The Casual Vacancy (2012) and the Cormoran Strike series under the pen name Robert Galbraith.
