Career
Putin worked as a KGB foreign intelligence officer for 16 years, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
After the fall of the Soviet Union, Putin entered politics and served as the mayor of Saint Petersburg from 1991 to 1996.
He then moved to Moscow and served as the head of the Federal Security Service (FSB), the successor agency to the KGB, from 1998 to 1999.
