Nikos Evangelatos: Greek Television News Anchor and Digital Media Entrepreneur Journey

Nikos Evangelatos stands as one of Greece's most recognizable faces in broadcast journalism, with a career spanning nearly four decades across television, radio, and online platforms. Born on April 3, 1967, in Athens with roots tracing back to Lixouri in Kefalonia, he built his reputation through steady progression from crime reporter to primetime news anchor. His educational background includes law studies at the University of Athens, though his passion for journalism led him down a different professional path.

His television career began in earnest at SKAI, where he took over as presenter of the central news bulletin following Elli Stai's departure. This prominent position established him as a trusted voice in Greek households, delivering daily news to millions of viewers. Over the years, Nikos Evangelatos expanded his presence beyond traditional broadcasting, demonstrating adaptability in an evolving media landscape that increasingly favored digital consumption.

Building a Successful Media Business Empire with Tatiana Stefanidou

The year 2010 marked a pivotal turning point when Nikos Evangelatos ventured into digital entrepreneurship alongside his wife, Tatiana Stefanidou. Together they founded Newsit and Tlife, investing 120,000 euros in each company to establish a robust online media ecosystem. This strategic move proved prescient as traditional media faced mounting challenges from internet-based news consumption.

Through these two companies, the couple developed an ecosystem comprising six websites that gradually strengthened their editorial and commercial footprint in Greek digital media. Their business acumen culminated in July 2024 when they agreed to sell both companies to Alter Ego Media, owned by Vangelis Marinakis, for a total of 28.5 million euros. This represented a remarkable 33.7 times return on their original invested capital, demonstrating exceptional business success.

Beyond the sale, Nikos Evangelatos and Tatiana Stefanidou strategically invested 2 million euros from the transaction proceeds to become shareholders in the publicly listed Alter Ego, acquiring 400,000 shares at 5 euros each. This forward-thinking move has already generated value as the share price rose to 6.30 euros by year-end, showcasing their continued confidence in the media sector.

From Police Reporter to Prime Time Host: A Decades-Long Career

The trajectory of Nikos Evangelatos reflects remarkable evolution from his early days as a police reporter in the late 1980s working for newspapers like "Proti" and "24 Hours". He progressed through various roles including radio station executive, television news anchor, and eventually host of his own television programs. This diverse experience across multiple media formats gave him comprehensive understanding of the industry.

His reporting style and on-screen presence resonated with Greek audiences, earning him consistent high viewership ratings. The trust placed in him by viewers is evident in the strong performance of programs like Live News on Mega channel. His ability to connect with audiences while maintaining journalistic credibility became his trademark throughout his broadcasting career.

Personal Life, Family, and Health Challenges

Nikos Evangelatos has been married twice, first to sports journalist Zeta Theodorakopoulou in 1996, with whom he had a son named Lambis. That marriage ended in divorce in 1999, though both maintained focus on their son's wellbeing. In 2003, he married Tatiana Stefanidou, a fellow journalist, and together they have two children, Nikolas born in 1999 and Lydia born in 2004.

The couple's relationship has been characterized by mutual support both professionally and personally. Tatiana Stefanidou once revealed that Nikos Evangelatos faced a serious health issue involving his back that left him unable to walk. Acupuncture treatment ultimately helped him recover from this debilitating condition that had confined him to bed. Their family life demonstrates the importance of maintaining balance and harmony, particularly in blended family situations.

Standing at 1.80 meters tall and being an Aries, Nikos Evangelatos is also known as a devoted supporter of AEK Athens football club. His personal interests and family commitments have remained important throughout his demanding career in the fast-paced world of Greek media and journalism.
