White survived a heart defect that required two operations when he was an infant.
He took up snowboarding at age six and the following year won his first competition. White was homeschooled and later attended Torrey Pines High School.

Career

White became a phenomenon on the amateur circuit, claiming five national titles, and turned professional at age 13.
He made his Winter X Games debut in 2000 and won five slopestyle titles (2003–06, 2009), as well as superpipe titles in 2003, 2006, and 2008–13.
White won three Olympic gold medals in half-pipe snowboarding at the 2006, 2010, and 2018 Winter Olympics.
He holds the world record for the most X Games gold medals and most Olympic gold medals by a snowboarder.
White has also competed in professional skateboarding, winning gold medals in the vertical skateboarding event at the X Games in 2007 and 2011.
