Jeff Bezos Biography Early Life and Education

Jeff Bezos was born Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen on January 12 1964 in Albuquerque New Mexico. He was adopted by Miguel Bezos after his mother remarried and grew up in a family that encouraged curiosity independence and ambitious problem solving.

As a child he displayed a fascination with how things worked. He built small inventions explored science projects and developed an early interest in space exploration an interest that would remain central throughout his adult life.

He spent formative summers on his grandfather's Texas ranch where he learned practical skills and saw the value of persistence. Those experiences gave him an appreciation for experimentation hard work and the willingness to repair problems instead of avoiding them.

His academic strengths led him to Princeton University where he studied electrical engineering and computer science. He graduated in 1986 and entered a rapidly changing technology and finance world prepared to apply analytical thinking to large business challenges.

Before launching his famous company he worked at firms including Fitel Bankers Trust and DE Shaw. At DE Shaw he became a senior vice president and recognized that the expanding internet created an opportunity for a new type of customer focused business.

Jeff Bezos made a defining decision in 1994 when he left a secure Wall Street career and moved toward Seattle. He followed what he called a regret minimization framework choosing the possibility of meaningful failure over the certainty of never trying.

Amazon

Amazon began as a bookseller and later expanded into recorded music, videos, electronic equipment, tools, and other areas, including online auctions.

Amazon quickly became the leader in e-commerce. Open 24 hours a day, the site was user-friendly, encouraging browsers to post their own reviews of products.

In 2007, Amazon released a portable wireless electronic reading device called the Kindle, which proved incredibly popular.

In 2017, Amazon acquired Whole Foods.
